PURITAN has a tremendous history as was used as a patrol schooner by the United States Navy during World War II. She is a gaff-rigged schooner and has undergone numerous restorations to keep her legacy alive. Upon delivery in 1931 she made her maiden voyage from New London, Connecticut, to Oyster Bay. After her navy service she was privately owned after which she turned into a research/expedition vessel. She was then owned by a former president of Peru and completely neglected after which an American family took over and took her racing. Eventually leading to her winning in 1973. After this she has raced all around the world and changed ownership a handful of times, and she is now brought back to life again after her recent refit.
